When it comes to my favorite girlbosses I have to include one of my role models, Sophia Amoruso. That is why for this new book review I have decided to showcase her memoir, #Girlboss.

To begin with I would like to mention some of the criticism this book has received since its release. Many say that this book is not helpful for those who are seeking advice, which is true. This book was not made as a “How to” get the success that she has gotten and I believe that wasn’t her intention. The purpose is to simply show everyone that you can get to where you want in life. She does this by simply retelling her journey and how she got to where she is.

It’s important to note that since the book’s release, Amoruso is no longer CEO of Nastygal and the company has since been sold to the BooHoo company. This came after the retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2016. Setting this aside, I don’t believe that is important to the overall message she is trying to tell through #Girlboss. Going back to the book, #Girlboss takes you from the beginning to the end of Amoruso’s journey to creating Nastygal. This story takes you on how she turned an eBay shop into one of the most successful retailers at the time. Amorouso takes you through some of the key moments that lead to her creating her own company from the ground up.

One of my favorite parts of this book is simply how direct she is when she talks about her journey. Nowhere in this book does she sugarcoat the obstacles but rather gives them to you straight on. What makes it all better is the uniqueness in which she talks about her life. Throughout the book there are so many quotes that would make anyone feel like they can do anything.

With so many great quotes I decided to list below some of my favorite quotes from the book.

My 5 Favorite #Girlboss Quotes

  1. If something’s not working out,but you keep hammering at it in the exact same way, go after something else for awhile. That’s not giving up, that’s just letting the universe have its way.”
  2. There are secret opportunities hidden inside every failure.”
  3. “Discomfort was where I was most comfortable.”
  4. “Focus on the positive things in your life and you’ll be shocked at how many more positive things start happening. But before you start to think you just got lucky, remember that it’s magic, and you  made it yourself.”
  5. Your challenge as a #GIRLBOSS is to dive headfirst into things without being too attached to the results. When your goal is to gain experience, perspective, and knowledge, failure is no longer a possibility.”

On the off chance that you have not heard, this book will make its way to Netflix in a show based upon Amoruso’s journey. You can find the trailer for the show here.

If this has now inspired you to fulfill your #Girlboss dreams, I would recommend purchasing this book to kick your motivation into high gear. You can find the book at any bookstore or Amazon and get your reading started.
